I totally goofed the other day when I said Atka was already one year old. Her birthday was June 23rd!!! We celebrated in style as she deserved. Beebe made homeade strawberry icecream in her new ice cream maker she got for her birthday June 20th and Jaedan wrapped her a gift with leftover paper from his suprise party from his bithday the same day! It was quite a birthday week. She got a squeek toy and loved the party hats with paws or was that Grandma that loved that, haha. Anyway, we all had a great time celebrating Atka's number ONE!!!!!

Wow....It's been a while since I've tried to tell you all about what we've been up to down here in South Carolina, We looked for shows to go to, but there are none within our dirving range. I have since decided to get her used to the public life by going to Keith's ballgames. Everyone loves Atka at first sight, then when they meet her...the next question is what is she? Where can I get one like her? I am quick to tell them all about the breed, however Atka is a special dog... in fact one of a kind.
Atka has a new best friend is (sshhhhhhh....don't tell the other dogs) a CAT! Her name is Scratchy and they have an unusual but great friendship. They play chase for hours and Scratchyhas consented to allowing herself to become Atka's personal toy. She lets her put her whole head in her mouth (if she feels like it), drag her around and lick her like another dog. In return Scratchy gets to come into Atka's domain chase her around, swat at her like a boxer's sparing partner and lay around to just be lazy together. A perfect match.
The warm weather has caused Atka's hair to thin out way more than I am happy about, but what can I do? She wants to sleep under the covers, which I try to stop daily. More blown coat! Oh well maybe she'll get more this winter. I can only hope.

A New Year

Well, Christmas and Jan. have come and gone and it is about to be my favorite time of the year ..."Baseball Season"!! Atka is growing up and as beautiful as ever. She still hasn't discovered that I am serious when I say come, and I'm not really wanting to play chase. She thinks I am the same age as she is. haha. She is probably as smart as I am at games anyway. She loves riding in the car, that's probably a good thing because I plan to watch and enjoy Keith's senior year. He made the Dean's list last semester and between him and Atka I am the proudest Grandma around.

Grandma Beth's Baby Comes Home
After a year of magazine articles, hours with Beebe in front of the computer, and TV shows hoping to get a glance at a rare breed we finally were on the road to pick up her precious cargo. A 4lb , 12 week old Alaskan KleeKai! She was found in Pennsylvania and so our drive to meet Ken half way in West Viginia wasn't too bad. I don't think I've seen mom that excited in quite a number of years. She was and is beautiful! I don't know how long mom would have made it without her. She was still grieving so from Chief's death. Atka is truly sent from above. As we were trying to decide on a name I googled lists of Alaskan,Siberian Indian names and their meanings. It was easy to choose because of the meaning. Although it sounds strange, remember it is not a language you are used to speaking just as an Alaskan KleeKai isn't a breed you see every day. Atka is so rare, so special, so eccentric. "PR"SHALIMAR"S ATKA-QILAQ (guardian from the sky) is more than we could have ever expected. I call her Grandma Beth's baby because she takes her to PetSmart on a regular basis to buy her baby stuff. She has a car seat, but of course, a carrying sling, many toys, treats, clothes, yep I said clothes, even rain boots!! Atka has made friwnds with a kitten and they play together in moms apartment. For all who know mom this is a huge WOW. The most important thing is mom loves Atka. The love she has brought mom is beyond measure. Her face has a smile on it when she looks at her or even talks of her.
